PACT 2011 Conference Hotel and Airport Transportation Information
Conference Hotel - Hotel Galvez.
The PACT 2011 conference hotel is the historic
Hotel Galvez & Spa,
which is a Wyndham Grand Hotel located on the Gulf of Mexico on Galveston Island.
The conference technical sessions will be held Tuesday-Thursday
October 11-13 in the Hotel Galvez.
The workshops and tutorials proceeding and following the conference on
Monday October 10 and Friday 14 will be held at Hotel Galvez.
A block of hotel rooms has been reserved at a special rate
of $90/night for PACT 2011 conference attendees at the Hotel Galvez.
The PACT 2011 room block includes the nights of October 9-14, 2011.
Additionally, rooms may be reserved at the special PACT rate for the
nights of October 8 or October 15 on a space available basis.
All guestrooms have complimentary wired and wireless internet access,
iPod docking station, and other standard amenities.

After the cut-off date, the negotiated rate cannot be guaranteed and

Airport Transportation.
The closest major city to Galveston is Houston, TX.
The two main Houston airports are
Intercontinental (IAH), 70 miles and 75 minutes drive from Galveston,
and Hobby (HOU), 43 miles and 45 minutes drive from Galveston.
Most airlines service IAH, but some such as Southwest and Delta use HOU.
The Hotel Galvez website provides
directions and maps to the hotel from both Intercontinental (IAH) and Hobby (HOU).
The hotel has complimentary self-parking for hotel guests (valet parking is
not free).
The hotel website also provides information on typical costs for shuttle, taxi,
and limo service.
We have contacted a few companies who provide shuttle and limo service to
Galveston from Intercontinental (IAH) and Hobby (HOU) airports and have
arranged for special rates for PACT participants.

Chariot 21 provides a
standard limo/car service that will meet people at the airport.
They will provide PACT participants a 10% discount off their
normal price when they indicate they are with
PACT when they make their reservation.
The normal rate for a Town Car (3 passenger capacity)
from Intercontinental (IAH) to Galveston is $150 (or $135 after discount) and
from Hobby (HOU) is $110 (or $99 after discount).
The rate for an SUV (7 passenger capacity)
from Intercontinental (IAH) to Galveston is $180 and
from Hobby (HOU) is $132.
Additionally, if participants would be willing to share rides,
Chariot has agreed to provide PACT participants a "best effort"
service to try to combine people that arrive around the same
time with the riders waiting at most 30 minutes and splitting
the cost of the ride equally. For example, if 6 people arrive in
a 1/2 hour time period, then they will send a SUV and charge each
person 1/6 of the SUV price. If you are interested in this option,
then you should reserve the car
in advance for full price (minus the 10% discount) and indicate
if you are willing to share a ride. You won't find out until
you arrive if you will share a ride or go alone.

You should indicate if you are willing to share a ride when you
make your reservation.
All reservations must be secured with a credit card. Charges will
not be applied until the service are rendered.
You are advised to make your reservations for both you arrival and
departure at least one week in advance.

Galveston Limousine
will provide shuttle service at a discounted rate of $60.00 roundtrip from
Hobby (HOU) Airport and $70.00 roundtrip from Intercontinental (IAH) Airport.
They will attempt to group as many people as possible based on flight times
and will add additional shuttles if needed.
Please note that no maximum wait time is guaranteed.
To receive this rate, reservations must be made by
October 5, 2011 and should be made by
calling 1-800-640-4826 and
mentioning that you are with the Rice University Conference.
On October 6 you will be e-mailed a confirmation of your reservation
along with your pick-up times from the Airport and from Galveston.
Any reservation made after the cut-off date of October 5 will receive their
regular fare of $80.00 round trip from Hobby (HOU) and $100.00 round trip from
Intercontinental (IAH) and will be accommodated on their regularly
scheduled shuttles.
