Marta Markowicz
I am a Computer Science Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign specializing in robotics and motion planning. My research focuses on safe and efficient planning in dynamic and evolving environments.
During my Ph.D., I developed the SPITE framework, which accelerates collision detection in changing environments through computational geometry techniques and decreases planning times by up to 40%. My academic work also extends into multi-agent systems and task and motion planning. Beyond the lab, I bring industry experience from my time at Amazon Robotics, where I focused on path planning for large-scale logistics.
I am passionate about building robust, high-performance software. I heavily utilize C++ and ROS2 for my contributions to the open-source Parasol Planning Library, alongside PyTorch and MuJoCo for learning-based manipulation and control. I enjoy tackling complex engineering challenges that bridge the gap between novel techniques and practical, hardware-driven execution.
I anticipate defending my dissertation in early or mid 2027 and am actively exploring opportunities to advance real-world autonomous solutions.
