Overview
This project-based course focuses on robotics team projects carried out in simulation and on physical robotic platforms. Students work in teams using tracks based on the F1TENTH autonomous driving car and the Booster K1 humanoid robot. Projects may reproduce or extend a research paper, develop a real-world robotics application, or explore a creative robotic behavior.
Meetings
Lecture: Tuesday and Thursday, 5:00-6:15 PM, 0216 Siebel Center.
Robotics Lab: 1105 Siebel Center and 1131 Siebel Center.
Platforms
F1TENTH autonomous driving cars, Booster K1 humanoid robots, simulation environments, and the robotics lab spaces in Siebel Center.
Project Focus
Perception, localization, planning, control, learning-based methods, system integration, experiments, demos, reports, and presentations.
Learning Outcomes
- Explain the main robotics pipeline components and how they interact.
- Apply track-specific tools such as ROS, autonomous navigation, humanoid planning, Isaac Sim, and AI model training.
- Develop a complete robotics project from problem formulation through implementation, testing, evaluation, and deployment.
- Collaborate effectively and communicate technical results clearly.
Prerequisites
Students are expected to have a solid programming foundation equivalent to CS 124 or CS 101. Familiarity with data structures and algorithmic thinking, as covered in CS 225, is strongly recommended. Calculus and linear algebra are preferred. No prior robotics or hardware experience is required.
